Stunning mixed media layout from Sandi!

Hello, everyone!
Sandi here with you today sharing another layout using the May "Mix'd Media" Kit from Scraps of Elegance Kit Club. The Main Kit papers center around Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident papers and Prima Marketing Flowers plus loads of other, fun mixed media goodies to get your creative juices flowing.

This little fella in my photo was actually at my house on Father's Day although the picture itself was taken last year. I'm telling you, this boy just makes my heart want to burst from joy! He is the most precious  combination of sweet, obedient, funny and all-boy. And yes, I know I'm prejudiced, haha! I wish he lived closer.

Anyway, I've used the Happy Accident Quirk paper as my background. After applying clear gesso using the Ranger Craft Squeegee, I used the KaiserCraft Foliage Stencil and DecoArt Sand Paste all from the Main Kit. I emphasized those areas a bit with some mist that matches with some gold tones in the paper. When that was dry, I stamped around my focal area with the Blue Halftone stamp from the Elements add-on. BTW, where has that Craft Squeegee been all my life??? It is even better than using a credit card when applying your gessoes. Love it!

I painted the Arrow Word as well as as the circle frame chipboard (from my stash) with the Prima Rust Paint from the May Scraps of Darkness Creativity add-on found HERE.  I also added a few none-pink flowers from the Flower add-on and tucked in a few of the ephemera from the Elements add-ons .. love, love the butterflies!

You can note here that before mounting the chipboard, I tossed some black thread from my stash underneath it to mimic the upper corner design. Boy pages are hard for me, so I figured texture and insects would help me overcome! Those and a little paint!

This is just a little closer-in photo to show the stencil texture and some of the stamping.

And this is all across the bottom two thirds of the page. I finished with some white gesso and black mist splatters.

Here is a photo  of the sold-out May Kit:

If you've been hanging around here any length of time, you know that Melinda carries the newest products. I always look forward to getting my Kit and add-ons every month. I'll bet you would too!

See you next time!

A masculine and a double page baby layout from Laura

Hi everyone!
Today I am excited to share a layout featuring a photo of our youngest and  the 'Attic Finds' kit from Scraps of Darkness!

This photo is from Ty's grade 8 grad!  He is really such a great kid...always willing to help and is a really loving kid with a kind heart!
For this layout I used the awesome Authentique rugged papers from the main kit and paper add on

I added some metal from previous kits and the title piece is from the paper tab you trim off!  It is perfect for a boy becoming a young man!

The books - appropriate for a grad photo - are textured stickers from 7Gypsies and  are really cool!

Here is my next layout using the Scraps Of Darkness 'Attic Finds' kit!

This wonderful paper does not scream 'baby girl' layout but I could picture it.  I know I don't normally create  two page albums but since this is for my great niece's baby album I thought it would go well!  This little cutie and her daddy are such a sweet pair!

I fussy cut the banner from one of the papers and used it to tie the two pages together. I also cut out one of the doors as an accent on the first page!  The title is also a cut out! I sprayed the doilies with Tim Holtz Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain from the color add on.

I used flowers from the main kit, floral add on and previous kits!

Thanks for stopping by

Two gorgeous mixed media pages from Annie

Hello everyone !! I am presenting my 1st layout for May kit :
I started by cutting small squares of the beautiful papers from Blue Fern Studios Happy Accident collection.  I glued them on the background and put Gesso on the surface.  Then I used the stencil from Kaisercraft and the Sand Paste by DecoArt. I added some sprays from my stash and finished with the Blue Fern Chipboards, flowers, Tim Holtz Ephemera, Prima Metal Trinquets and Blue Fern chipboard for the title.

Here are some close-ups :

This is my butterfly layout :)  I just love those Tim Holtz Ephemeras ! I used the ones where there was Purple on them and painted some of them also.  I also used the metal trinkets from Prima but I put some Gesso on them.

Thank you

Mixed Media Monday - Lisa Novogrodski

Good Morning Blog Friends-

The Attic Finds Kit from Scraps of Darkness is probably one of my all time faves!  I just love the ephemera of 7 Gypsies and Tim Holtz. This really is my style and what I enjoy doing the most. Collage style work, altering and funky artsy details.
If you missed the kit you can find our kits here.

So much inspiration in one box!

I created this artist trading block using the 7 Gypsies Architextures in my background. You can see the pattern paper add on in the kit here.

I added layer upon layer cutting out bits and pieces from these papers and adding in the ephemera found in the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Emporium Pack found here.

The Creativity Add On included the Prima Finnabair Rust Effects Paste. I used this on my box edges, all of my metal embellishments including the chains. I added spools for feet and used this on them as well.

Along with the rust paste I used some blue toned paint to achieve a patina effect on my metal.

Also, I used a stencil and used the paste with that adding some texture to the pattern papers on the box.

One of my little art doll girls holding some letters from Papermania-Mr. Smiths Workshop Alphabet Stickers found in the Elements Add On. She is also popping out a suitcase. This is also in the Elements Add On - 7 Gypsies Architextures treasured adhesive stacked suitcases.

Mixed Media Selfie Layout Tutorial: April SOE kit

It has been a while, ladies and gentlemen, but I just completed a video tutorial (mostly in fast forward) for my layout titled, "Fly. Be Free." using April's Scraps of Elegance Main Kit and Elements Add On Kit. You can find my video tutorial at the end of this blog post.

I wanted to start using some extra photos I had sitting around in my stash that I never used for previous layouts, so I used this selfie.  Here are some details:

In my video tutorials, I usually use a pencil to mark where I want some of my elements to be on the page (so that I am not "fussing around" during the video).  After my video tutorial was finished and uploaded, I realized I left this little pencil dot above my purple rose!  The moral of the story is: Remember to erase your pencil marks when you are finished. :-)

I hope you enjoy the video and don't forget to see the newest Scraps of Darkness and Scraps of Elegance Kits at the online store.

Thanks for visiting!

Two Vintage Mixed Media layouts from Lisa Griffith

Hello crafty friends, it's Lisa here to share my very first layout created with the Scraps of Elegance May kit called 'Mix'd Media'.

My best friend at work came in one day and showed me this photo of her mother that she had found going through her mother's things, and I just love her happy expression and that dress! Can you imagine wearing something that fancy? I knew I just had to scrap it, and the pretty pink papers by Blue Fern Studios were the perfect backdrop. I'm planning on buying one those shadow
box frames at Michael's and giving it to her as a gift :)

Here is the May kit, it's already sold out, so the best way to make
sure you don't miss out is to become a subscriber, trust me,
you will never be disappointed! Melinda always has the most wonderful
Add Ons too, the Floral Add On always has such beautiful flowers,
and compliments everything in the kit.

You can find out how to subscribe here,
and don't forget to check out our
Youtube channel here.

Here are a few close ups:

See what I mean about the Floral Add on???? Such pretty Prima blooms
that perfectly match this month's papers.

I created my background by using lots of watercolors and then over the top I added some stenciling with the Kaisercraft stencil and the DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste. Then I added some of the Blue Fern Studios chipboard, Prima Metal Trinkets, and the Maya Arts Ivory Ribbon that I ripped in half, colored with some pink 13 arts ink, and then scrunched it up down the side of my page.

I also used the Blue Fern Studio stamp, 'Halftones',
and the Tim Holtz Botanical Ephemera included in the Elements Add On.

I also wanted to share my second page created with the
beautiful Scraps of Elegance kit called 'Song of Spring'.

'Treasure Forever'

More yummy 49 & Market papers and flowers...I adore the deep blue of this paper, and the gorgeous blooms and leaves of grass are just so pretty. You can find our kits here, and don't forget and don't forget to go here to see where we post all kinds of cool tutorials to get your creative juices flowing....

Here are a few closeups:

I used a lot from the Main Kit, the Elements Add On, and the Floral Add On on this page, the Nuvo Sweet Lilac Drops, the Kaisercraft Butterflies Printed Washi Tape, and the Ultimate Crafts 'Rambling Rose' Ephemera Die Cuts.

I used a few pieces of 2 Crafty Chipboard, I love those swirly words, and a little 'Fine Leafy Bush', you can find their products here.

See you soon,
Lisa xo
