Kathy takes a walk on the wild side!

Good morning!
This month's Scraps Of Darkness Kit is full of animal inspired prints... perfect for those zoo, safari or wild photos!
Kathy has created a wonderful and wild layout...

She started creating the background of the photos using papers from the Coordinating Paper Add-On from Kaisercraft's Into The Wild collection, the green and orange.  She stamped down the side of the orange paper, then tucked in some scrap burlap under the green.  She used another honeycomb stamp that came in a previous kit along the edges of the tiger printed Graphic 45 Safari Adventure paper in the off center.

She created layers of papers to use under the photos and featured one of the Graphic 45 giraffe cards that was cut out of the Jungle Expedition paper (main kit).  She tucked under the main mat several strings from the burlap to give it some texture.

She fussy cut the cute little giraffe's head to lean over the center photo and used several pieces of the Graphic 45 chipboard (Elements Add-On) and Graphic 45 die cut tags from the Main Kit in the clusters.

She created several little flower clusters around the layout using flowers from the Main Kit, Floral Add-On, and her stash.  And, finally the title is from the selvage edge of one of the Kaisercraft papers.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

We've got a wonderful new video tutorial to share with you today: Tanya's DIY handmade travel journal / mini album.  She created it with our August Scraps of Darkness kit, Safari, which included papers from Graphic 45's Safari Adventure collection, as well as that amazing Prima Memory Hardware Artisan Parisian Rough Texture Leather Paper you see on the cover of her journal (you can also find it in our store).
Here's Tanya's tutorial:

And a few photos of this fun project:

Mixed Media Monday - 8.29.16

Good morning!
Sorry to have been away, but to make it up to you I have TWO amazing mixed media projects to share with you today, a canvas from Lisa and art journal pages from Anna!

Lisa N. created a breathtaking canvas using the Scraps Of Elegance 'By The Sea' kit:
Lisa used the 10 x 10 canvas board from our Creativity Add On and covered it in Tim Holtz tissue paper, adhering it with Modge Podge. Then she coated it in white gesso and wiped some off. Although there was a lot of print on the tissue you really can't see it now. The texture of the wrinkles was what she was going after.  She smeared Art Extravagance Texture Paste in White Crackle on the background - more along the edges and some in the middle - and let it dry overnight.  In this months Creativity Add On we included Art Alchemy acrylic paint in Opal Magic Yellow Blue.  She used that as the first coat of paint on the background. We also included Apricot Inka Gold in the same add on. She began layering color by watering down the Inka Gold and randomly painting that with a variety of other colors. She used a mix of acrylic Art Alchemy paints (we have lots of them in the store!) and some Shimmerz. The background has a nice effect of varying blues, purples and gold.

In the Creativity Add On we also included Blue Fern Studios Seaside Treasures Chipboard. She broke hers apart, painted in with coral paint then embossed it with Blue Fern's embossing powder in Coral (which was in the Color Add On).
The mermaid was painted in a variety of blues and golds. She used a Shimmerz Tarnished Treasure, layered in some Art Alchemy in Deep Waters found in the color add on and some gold Inka Gold. The hair was painted in a brown Lumiere paint. She then embossed the hair and the Mermaid. She used her favorite Stampendous Gold Encrusted Jewels - found in our store here - and some Seaglass WOW embossing powder also by Stampendous and found in our Main Kit.

She had some chipboard ferns and painted them in various shades of green and brown for a natural effect. She then embossed them in Gold Encrusted Jewels again. Also found in the Creativity were some beautiful freshwater pearls and glass pearl beads, so she mixed those in.

Her title is a chipboard piece from the French Riviera collection. It was included in the Main Kit. She embellished it with some copper micro beads and Deep Waters paint.

She added some French Riviera Say It in Crystals she had on hand along with some seed beads. She used a bit of Lettuce Entertain You (green) Prills and sprayed some cheesecloth with Lindys mist in a bronze color to give a sea weed effect within the ferns.

The next project I will share is a gorgeous art journal from Anna using our July 'Sunshine & Sweet Tea' kit.

Lisa's gorgeous vintage beach themed mini album!

Good morning!

I have another gorgeous mini album to share with you today!
This one was created by Lisa N. using our August Scraps Of Elegance 'By The Sea' kit.

She was inspired to create a Tri Fold Mini Album following a tutorial for the base on YouTube by Papercrafter 45. She used the Prima French Riviera Collection found in the Coordinating Paper Add On to create the base for her album.

The Seaside Lilies Flowers by Blue Fern Studios are in the Main Kit and also available in our store (along with lots of other Blue Fern Flowers), and she used them along with the French Riviera Flowers found in the Floral Add On to embellish the front of her album. She tucked in French Riviera Chipboard (main kit) and some Dusty Attic Chipboard. Our beautiful Color Add On included Art Alchemy Deep Waters Metallic Paint and she used it along with Stampendous embossing powders in gold to treat her chipboard. You can find the art alchemy paint here and the embossing powder here.

This is a side view tied with some beautiful dark blue seam binding with a jewel dangle.

This is what the mini album looks like opened up.  She created lots of tags with both the Blue Fern Seaside Cottage (main kit) and French Riviera collections.

She used some fussy cut pieces from the French Riviera collection and added a little wooden embellishment that she had on hand. She also did a little stenciling in the background and added splatters.

A little close up of the fussy cut pieces.

A little close up of the ribbon closure and dangle.

This is the back of the album. She loves the print of this French Riviera papers contrasted with the stenciling and splatters.

You can see the depth of this album with the ribbon tied.

She used a Spellbinders Die for the base then layered the papers and florals over it. Love that lily flower from Blue Fern! You can see her little starfish embossed.

Weekend inspiration from Denisa!

Good morning!

I do not create mini albums very often, but I love them....I think they are a wonderful way to preserve your photos!
Denisa doesn't create minis very often either BUT the one she just created using ourScraps of Darkness 'An Ocean Tale' kit is AMAZING!

Its size is 12cm x 13cm x 6cm. The cover is made of print patterned cloth. Inside there are eight pages, each of them including a 5cm x 5cm pic of her lovely daughters

She started off with a coat of white gesso, then applied metallic modelling paste over a stencil. She used coffee, turquoise, white and gold sprays to achieve the ocean feel.

She kept the inside pages simple because the papers´ patterns are busy. A bit of clean and simple look inside and a mixed media madness on the outside.

Thanks for stopping by!

Kathy's first 'Safari' layout

Good morning!

Kathy has created a fun and wild layout using our newest
Scraps Of Darkness kit 'Safari

She started with 2 different Graphic 45 papers and ripped the bright green on the top and bottom and created layers simulating the slopes of the hill.  Before gluing the top layer down she glued down black thread to give the layout some texture.

She began assembling the photo mats and various layers using both paper collections.  She started with a elephant image from the Safari collection and matted it with frayed burlap then cut a small piece from the left side of the image and glued it to the far left side of the photo mat.

The black photo mat was created by using an image from one of the Kaisercraft papers and gluing it to the bottom of another Kaisercraft "Into the Wild" paper.  Both are included in the Coordinating Paper Add-On
In the center of the layout she created little layers of G45 chipboards and die cuts.  The chipboard is included in the Elements Add-On and the die cuts comes with the Main Kit.  She also sprinkled little flowers and created little clusters around the layout using the flowers are in the Floral Add-on

The little zebra strips were cut from the top and bottom of the "I'm Wild About You" phrase.  Above the strip on the right top side she used one of the little circle tags included with the Main Kit that stamped and inked around the edges,  then applied one of the circle die cuts from Graphic 45 which comes in the Main Kit.
