Mixed Media Monday - 3.4.17 with Jessica!

Hello everyone! Today I am excited to share my first layout titled "Little Colonel" using March's Scraps of Darkness "Boys Will Be Boys" kit. Do not let the name of the kit this month fool you... there are many fun ways to change things up and create some Girls Will Be Girls layouts as well!

When I saw the Papermania Denim Blue Metal Buttons from the Elements Add On kit, I immediately thought of this picture of Shirley Temple. When my grandfather was in the military and stationed in Hawaii, he actually took some amazing pictures of different celebrities.

Using one of the papers from the Blue Fern Studios' Chesterville Collection from the main kit, I began layering different paints and inks over my stenciled areas. I used a couple of the BoBunny Life In Color Collection Misc. Me journaling cards under my picture along with some of the Blue Fern Studios' chipboard packaging.

To color the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Paper Flower, I first applied clear gesso, let it dry, then sprayed it with some Lindy's Stamp Gang mist.

To add a bit of color to my layout, I used the Tim Holtz Salty Ocean Distress Crayon from the main kit to accent my fabric pieces that I had colored with Black Gesso. Using some matte gel medium, I randomly applied the American Crafts POP! Microbeads from the Elements Add On Kit since they match the Tim Holtz distress crayon wonderfully.

As a final touch, I adhered the Darice Black Sequins under the photo.

I hope I was able to inspire you with my vintage layout of Shirley Temple using the March Scraps of Darkness "Boys Will Be Boys" Main Kit and the Elements Add On Kit. You can click here to access the Scraps of Darkness online store.
